Mia has a fantas"tick" MSc defence!

Congratulations to Mia Lauzon who breezed through her MSc defence in December! Mia has been studying the overwintering biology of blacklegged ticks in Nova Scotia and was able to show that increased overwintering success of infected ticks does not appear to be linked to an increased ability to survive acute low temperature stress. She also showed that ticks are active above 0 C in the winter, and determined some lower temperature limits that are essential for helping to predict the northward spread of these invasive ticks. We'll miss having Mia in the lab but are looking forward to seeing her next steps as a PhD student in Ottawa!
